J & S Montgomery is a proud family-run business, established in 1975 by brothers John and Stewart Montgomery. In the early days, the company focused on repairing tractors and machinery for local farmers while also restoring and reselling used tractors.
From the very beginning, we have valued hard work, reliability, and service. Our goal has always been to provide customers with the very best products, supported by a dedicated team committed to excellence across all areas of the business.
In 1980, J & S Montgomery became a John Deere franchise, a milestone that opened the door to new opportunities and long-term growth. Today, we employ over 60 members of staff—many of whom have spent most, if not all, of their careers with us. Our service team of 29 is backed by an experienced parts department and invaluable office staff, ensuring seamless support for our customers.
Expansion has been an important part of our journey:
In 2005, we acquired the Stranraer depot, extending our reach into South Ayrshire, Stranraer, and Wigtownshire.
In 2015, we opened a new depot in Ayr, further strengthening our presence across the region.
In 2025, the latest expansion came with the acquisition of DKR in Biggar, opening a new area to the east for the company and allowing us to support even more customers.
We are proud to represent leading franchises including John Deere, Kverneland, Kramer, Yamaha, Logic, Nugent, Opico, and Stihl.
Although Stewart sadly passed away in March 2020 after a long battle with cancer, his dedication, values, and memory remain at the heart of everything we do. Today, the business continues to be run by the Montgomery family, staying true to its founding principles while moving forward with innovation and growth.
